John F. Kennedy Signed 1963 Letter on White House Letterhead “I asked you to undertake a most delicate and urgent mission…”

“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly!”
-John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy was the youngest person ever elected as President of the United States of America.

Born in Brookline, Massachusetts to financier Joseph and Rose Kennedy, on May 29, 1917. He graduated from Harvard in 1940, and entered the Navy at the beginning of World War II. In 1943, when his PT-109 boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer, Kennedy, despite injuries, led the survivors through perilous waters to safety.

After returning from the war, he was elected to congress representing Boston, and later to the Senate. While recuperating from a back operation, Kennedy wrote “Profiles in Courage”, which won him the coveted Pulitzer Prize for history.
In 1960 he became the democratic nominee for president. Millions watched his television debates with Republican candidate, Richard Nixon. Winning the popular vote, Kennedy became the youngest U.S. President, to be elected to office, in history and still holds that honor today.

His Inaugural Address offered the memorable injunction: “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.”

Something Kennedy will always be remembered for is the 1963 passing of the civil rights bill that desegregated hotels, restaurants, and other public accommodations. Kennedy weathered the Cuban Missile Crisis and help lead a partial nuclear test ban treaty in 1963.

He’s most notably remembered for his famous prediction, that the United States would land a person on the moon and safely return him to earth, before the end of the decade, which we did accomplish.

Unfortunately he is also remembered as one of the four sitting U.S. Presidents that were assassinated during the time of their presidency.

In 1963, John F. Kennedy appointed the Honorable Wilson Wyatt, Lt. Governor of Kentucky, as a special envoy to Indonesia to deal with Sukarno's threat to nationalize foreign oil companies there. In this historic letter, on official White House letterhead, dated June 5, 1963 and addressed to Wyatt from President John F. Kennedy, he thanks the Governor for his willingness to attend to the matter and congratulates him on his success in reaching this historic agreement. We’ve also included copies of the letters from Prime Minister Harold MacMillan, thanking Kennedy for dealing with the issue and protecting both American and British interests, and also included a copy of the letter from President Sukarno thanking Kennedy for sending Wyatt to negotiate the agreement.

This White House letter has been signed in Kennedy’s own hand, with black steel tip pen. Unfortunately, just five months after the signing of this letter, President John F. Kennedy would be assassinated.

President Kennedy will be touted as one of the most beloved Presidents in the history of this nation. We’ve included this incredible quote that Kennedy will always be remembered for.

“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly!”
-John F. Kennedy
