Hugh Hefner Signed 1967 TIME Magazine Cover: “Life is too short to be living someone else’s dream.”

$5,500.00

When Hugh Hefner(born April 9, 1926) quit his job at Esquire to start a magazine called Playboy, he didn't just want to make money, he wanted to change the world. With a $600 loan against his furniture from the local bank and a $1000 loan from his mother, he was able to finance that first issue of Playboy. He ended writing much of the copy himself for the magazine, and drawing all of the cartoons, but the most memorable part by far was the set of pictures he bought from a local calendar printer of a scantily clad Marilyn Monroe. That decision would make that first issue infamous and change his life forever.
Hugh Hefner became one of the most hated and envied celebrities in America, dating a long list of his magazine's beauties and always standing just barely on the wrong side of decency and moral uprightness. In 1972 he made a genius marketing move when he purchased his Playboy mansion for $1.1 million, which was then the highest private home sale ever in Los Angeles. Hefner’s Playboy empire went on to include hotels, nightclubs, cable channels, and reality TV shows in addition to the magazine that at its height boasted an incredible 7 million subscribers. The Playboy brand had become a true iconic business story.
This is an amazing original March 3, 1967 cover of TIME magazine. On this cover the magazine pays homage to it’s Man of the Year, as it features a commissioned work by TIME magazine from Marisol Escobar (1966-67) a life size wooden sculpture of the 40 year old Hugh Hefner. On the cover, titled, “The Pursuit of Hedonism” Hefner has beautifully inscribed his name in Black felt tip pen, “Hugh Hefner”, in his own hand.
Below the magazine cover, and centered, we have included one of Hugh Hefner’s most famous and inspiring quotes, one that really speaks to how he lived his life everyday.
“Life is too short to be living someone else’s dream.” -Hugh Hefner
